“Our children are the rock on which our future will be built…” – Nelson Mandela
Connecting Hearts is dedicated to the needs and well-being of children of incarcerated individuals. In line with this mission, we supported the festivities in honor of Nelson Mandela.
Nelson Mandela Day stands for justice, equality, and the power of collective action to bring about positive change. This year, we were pleased to collaborate with the Department of Penitentiary Administration (DAP) of Côte d’Ivoire and the Ivorian Maracana Federation, and to support a Maracana football match at a correctional facility.
Maracana, a variation of soccer played on a smaller field with fewer players, makes the game fast-paced and exciting. Inmates of the Abidjan Penitentiary Complex and their children played together on the facility’s outdoor grounds. This event brought great joy to the families, created valuable memories, and strengthened the bond between parents and children – a crucial factor for successful reintegration.
