In the Czech Republic, there are approximately 30,000 children whose parents are incarcerated. The state or other institutions do not offer special support for them. The incarceration of parents weakens the bond between parents and children and could bring negative life experiences.
The “Mentoring Children of Prisoners” program by Prison Fellowship Czech Republic aims to support children during this difficult time. Mentors regularly visit affected families, have an open ear for the concerns of the children, and support their development.
Interaction with other children of incarcerated parents through leisure clubs and summer camps is also facilitated, showing those affected that they are not alone with their problems.
Connecting Hearts is pleased to support 35 children through mentors with the help of donations and to expand the program by recruiting new mentors. For more information about the mentoring program, visit: www.mvs.cz
