For the second year in a row, Connecting Hearts supported the work of Prison Fellowship in the Czech Republic through the Angel Tree Initiative.
The aim of the program is to offer children of incarcerated parents a sign of closeness and love at Christmas—in the form of a gift given in the name of their mother or father, accompanied by a personal letter. Nationwide, the initiative reached around 3,000 children, 200 of them with the support of Connecting Hearts.
A particularly special moment took place on December 9, when 14 incarcerated fathers from Rapotice Prison were allowed to spend time with their children outside the facility. After a shared walk through the festively decorated old town of Brno, the second-largest city in the Czech Republic, more than 30 children were able to receive their Christmas presents in person—and, above all, share precious time with their fathers.
Especially moving was the participation of a grandmother who is raising her grandchildren on her own and had not seen her incarcerated son for four years, as fear had prevented her from entering prisons. In this protected and dignified setting, the family was able to spend a few carefree hours together for the first time in a long while.
